How the Rule of 7 Affects Your Marketing

Your business has a stellar website, your social media game is top tier, and you’ve taken advantage of submitting a press release to your local newspaper but clients and customers aren’t rolling in. What gives?

Enter the Rule of 7.

Watch the Reel!

Not on Instagram?

Originating from a study conducted in the 1930s, the Rule of 7 states that it takes an average of seven interactions with your business before a potential customer makes a purchase.

Interactions include:

  • Social media posts (each post counts as an interaction, even if someone saw the same post on multiple platforms!)

  • Ads (print, online, television, radio)

  • Website

  • Google Business listing/Google Maps

  • Blog post

  • Press release

  • A recommendation from a friend, which is the most effective form of marketing.

To take advantage of the Rule of 7, choose a variety of online and traditional marketing channels, and remember to stay consistent.

Marketing is a marathon, and it’s best to go slow and steady. It’s better to post on social media twice a week consistently than five times in one week, once the next, and three times the following week.

Consistent marketing not only keeps a steady message out there, it ensures the Rule of 7 is working with you instead of against you.
