Is It Ok to Change Your Target Market?

Is it ok to change your target market?

Absolutely!

As you refine your offer and continue down your business path, you may find that your offer suits a different market better. Or a new market comes into play that wasn’t there when you started.

That's what happened to me!

My original target market was women between the ages of 35 and 55 who were starting a location based business (like restaurant, retail, or hair salon).

But this market wanted 1:1 services, which I was pivoting away from.I launched my online courses in 2019 and had the hardest time encouraging my market to sign up.But then something interesting happened.

The pandemic inspired more people in my generation to start businesses. In fact, millennials are now more likely to start a business than any other generation!

And guess what?

These people are used to - and thrive - in an online environment. So I changed my messaging and marketing to connect with them.

The home page on my website calls them out directly!

Bold move? Yes.

Worth it? Absolutely.

Having super specific messaging doesn’t alienate clients and customers. It connects more deeply with those who would benefit from your offer.

You want your ideal customers to think you’re talking directly to them so they think β€œOMG that’s me! Yes, I NEED this.”

The more connected they are and the more they feel your offer will help them, the more likely you are to make a sale.

Don’t be afraid to change your target market, or to have a niche ideal customer.
